Though orginally there was no specific rulesets, there was just basic story between characters, acting out the role. Hence the term Roleplay. But it was not before long that rulesets were added. As of now, it is ideal that the rulesets be learned. Here are just a few versions.
T1-MP- The usage of Moderate based characters, vampires, werewolves, demons, angels a good example of an MP style character would be Albert Wesker from the resident evil franchise.
Then you got, L-Style- The usage of hardcore flat out logic, in basic terms.
There are many other different rulesets and versions, but these two are just the ones that come right off the bat.
